Why We
Procrastinate!
What Keeps us from
Getting off the Sofa?
With the sky rocketing price of professional home repair, there
is no better time to start doing it yourself than
today You
tell yourself "I'll get to it someday," but will you really.
Our motivation can be from the $$$ we can save or our own
personal satisfaction A lot of our hesitation is in part to not
having the skills and not having a
plan.
Learning
the Skills
To master household repairs, fix-its, and new building projects
you need to develop your skills. Many of us did not grow
up in family where using tools or repairing things were common
and hiring the "professional" or asking the "handy guy" down
the street was the way out.
My dad was the poster boy for not having a drop of
"handy" in his blood, but he kept on trying and asking a
lot of questions I started working with tools out of
necessity when my dad bought me a my first car, a
1966 Mercury
Comet. I had zero skills on working on
cars, but this car was my only means of transportation through
college. Slowly I started buy more tools and tackling
more difficult projects
Having a Plan
Success with any project or simple repair is to have a
plan. I want to see projects that I can actually do in a
reasonable amount of time and without every specialty tool
known to mankind.
If you are working on a plumbing project and you have only one
point to shut off the water to you home, condo, or apartment
then nobody can use the bathroom until you are done.
Likewise, if you are doing any electrical project, you will
need to finish to be able to the house power back on. So
plan ahead.
Likewise, having all of your materials and tools is the key to
finishing in a reasonable amount of time. Believe me,
leaving in the middle of a repair job and stopping to go back
to the store is no picnic and can lead to a lot of
frustration.
