Watch out!... Your're going to Get
Wet!
Stopping that Noisy Toilet
So your'e
significant other is constanly baggering you about the noisy
toliet running after each flush. It is a constant bother
and also a big waste of water. There is a simple
adjustment that can be made , so follow this steps:
- Lift off the lift off the back of the toliet tank and
set aside where it will not falll and get damaged.
- On most toliets there is a float mechanism that
controls a valve that allows the tank to fill after each
flush. If this is not set properly, the water valve
will remain open and that is the noise
that you are hearing
- There is a "cross type " screw known as a phillps head
that controls the follow of the water. Remember "
Lefty loosy Righty tighty" Making the screw tighter
will restrict the amount of water. Making it looser
will allow more. Since we want less water turn it to
the "right" clockwise until the sound of the water
stops
After you have tried the method above and the noise has not
stooped the next step is to see if the "flapper" is
stuck. The flapper closes off the supply of water to the
toilet bowel. If if does not close after each flush.
Water will be constantly running.
- If you see a chain follow it down to the bottom of the
bowl and you will see the "flapper". The chain could
be too long and can be easily adjusted
- If the flapper is down and water is still running then
it needs to be replaced. Your local hardware or big
box store ( Lowes or Home Depot) will have a replacement
flapper or a whole new assemble.
What ever is the source of your noise problem, fixing it is
a must for saving water and protecting your home from future
damage.
